The Costs of Consumption

September's eco-article is about buying into environmental ideas instead of simply buying more junk.

I got a message from Chris, a loyal Boone County planetary protector, and this is what she had to say:

Hi Becky - GREAT article in the recorder - more of us need to understand that buying things doesn't equate with happiness. Instead it means - a house full of stuff which needs to be organized and cleaned (UCK!), an empty wallet and credit card bills ( sometimes paid with home equity!), and problems with the economy -- we are buying too much from China - and as a result are a diminshed nation!!

Thanks for writing .....
Chris

Gee, with a title like that I'da expected you was gonna talk about the Government's proposed $700 billion handout to Wall Street.

Why do they want to take this money from hippie packrats and give it to thieves? Because they want to turn the consumption machine back on, that's why! They refuse to see that the cycle has turned and that Main Street is going to get by just fine with less stuff.

If you haven't already done so, phone, fax, and email your Federal representatives/senators and let them know that you are vehemently opposed to any and all bailouts, handouts, or rescues which require the misuse of your tax dollars!

It worked once and it can work again, when they go back to the bar for another round this week. In a roundabout way, this is also a great victory for enviromental protection and sustainment.
